There has been one pivotal moment in my travels that became an echo of pure bliss. It was the truest, most pure moment I’ve ever experienced. That moment was during a trip to a cenote (sinkhole) in Mexico back in 2014. It was the kind of bliss that transcended borders and connected souls, a feeling that has fueled my desire to travel for the rest of my life.
We had booked an excursion to Chichén Itzá, unaware that swimming in a cenote was part of it. We hadn’t packed swimsuits or towels. It didn’t matter, we stripped down to our skivvies because we weren’t going to let this opportunity pass.

As we stood there, a group of individuals from around the world at first glance you might have picked out our differences – varied skin tones, body shapes, languages spoken. But the magic that happened came after we jumped into the cenote. The cool water washed over us and washed away any superficial layers that usually define us. In that cenote, we were no longer a collection of individuals; we were a community bound by the sheer joy of the moment.
We felt youthful, smiling from ear to ear, in a state of happiness connected from a string of moments that was only ours. Despite our linguistic barriers and diverse backgrounds, we all felt it—the electric charge running through the water and into our beings. We above all else were united, and nothing else mattered. This moment, this unique string of experiences, became a memory etched into my heart.
I can only hope that others from that trip remember this moment as fondly as I do. It’s a memory I continue to chase.

From that moment onward, I knew I wanted to make traveling a priority in my life. It wasn’t just about chasing that specific feeling but about seeking out more moments, experiences that transcend words and expand the boundaries of my understanding.
Here’s to finding your spark.
